How Foreclosure Fighter Moe Bedard Rescues Stranded Homeowners

We first wrote about Moe Bedard last August. He had posted a list of lender contact numbers for those facing foreclosure and we thought, aha, this is information that can help folks.

Just as interesting, Bedard wanted others to publish his list. So we did, with credit to Moe and his site.

Moe now operates LoanSafe.org and has helped some 300 people with foreclosure issues. He is so good at what he does that he was featured over the weekend in an article in the New York Times Sunday Business section written by their ace reporter, Gretchen Morgenson.

Morgenson’s article, The Silence of the Lenders explains with great fairness the issues facing both borrowers and loan servicers. She explains some of the techniques Bedard uses to push through modifications — and why some modifications are better than others.

She also looks at the case of Dan Bailey, a Countrywide borrower who sent a form letter found on the LoanSafe site to company officials asking for help to avoid foreclosure. What he got was an email from company head Angelo R. Mozilo saying “this is unbelievable. Most of these letters now have the same wording. Obviously they are being counseled by some other person or by the internet. Disgusting.”

The Bailey/Mozilo exchange is now a staple of the foreclosure mess and Bedard is emerging as a leader of those working to save more homes. Most importantly, Bedard is showing that loans can be modified and explaining how it can be done.

Bailey got his modification. As to Moe, you look at what he’s doing and think: Wow, sometimes the good guys really do win.

    Thanks Peter for the accolades and as always, for reporting the truth. It is men like you who give me inspiration to keep fighting the good fight.

    I miss the late night calls and email counseling friend! Without your advice, and open ear and emails, this may all may have never happened.
